My Favourite Natural Baby Products (That I Actually Use Daily)
When I first became a mum, I was completely overwhelmed by the sheer number of baby products on the market. Every aisle seemed packed with promises of softer skin, better sleep, and happier babies. But as someone who’s always leaned towards natural living, I knew I wanted to be mindful about what I brought into our home and onto my baby’s delicate skin.
After three years and two beautiful bubs, I’ve finally found my groove. These aren’t just products I bought once and forgot about in the back of the cupboard — these are the natural baby products I genuinely reach for every single day. They’ve earned their spot in our routine because they actually work, they’re gentle on sensitive skin, and they align with our family’s values.
Why I Choose Natural Baby Products
Before I dive into my favourites, let me share why going natural matters so much to me. Babies have incredibly thin, permeable skin — up to five times thinner than adult skin. This means whatever we put on them gets absorbed much more readily into their little bodies.
When I started reading ingredient labels, I was shocked by how many conventional baby products contained synthetic fragrances, parabens, and harsh chemicals. It just didn’t sit right with me. I wanted products that were as pure and gentle as possible, without compromising on effectiveness.
Going natural also means I’m doing my bit for the environment. Many natural brands prioritise sustainable packaging and ethical sourcing, which feels important when I think about the world my children will inherit.
My Daily Natural Skincare Essentials
Let’s start with the products that touch my baby’s skin every day. These are non-negotiables in our household.
Gentle Coconut Baby Wash
Bath time is sacred in our house — it’s part of our wind-down routine every evening. I use a plant-based baby wash that’s free from sulphates and synthetic fragrances. Look for washes that contain ingredients like coconut-derived cleansers, chamomile, and calendula. These clean beautifully without stripping away natural oils or causing irritation.
Organic Baby Moisturiser
Both my bubs have had patches of dry skin, especially during the cooler months. I slather on a rich organic moisturiser after every bath. My go-to contains shea butter, jojoba oil, and vitamin E. It absorbs quickly, doesn’t leave a greasy residue, and keeps their skin soft all day. I also use it on myself — no judgement!
Natural Nappy Cream
Nappy rash is inevitable at some point, no matter how vigilant you are. I keep a zinc-based natural nappy cream on hand at all times. The best ones contain zinc oxide combined with soothing ingredients like calendula and coconut oil. It creates a protective barrier while letting the skin breathe and heal.
Nappies and Wipes That Actually Work
This is where I spent the most time experimenting, because let’s be honest — nappies and wipes are used constantly. They need to perform well AND be gentle.
Eco-Friendly Disposable Nappies
While I dabbled in cloth nappies (and full respect to the mums who make it work!), I found that eco-friendly disposables were the right fit for our family. Look for brands that are chlorine-free, use plant-based materials, and avoid synthetic fragrances. Many Australian brands now offer biodegradable options that break down much faster than conventional nappies.
Water-Based Baby Wipes
I go through an embarrassing number of wipes each week. My favourites are 99% water wipes with just a touch of fruit extract or aloe. They’re gentle enough for faces, hands, and sensitive bottoms, and I never worry about nasty ingredients. Pro tip: keep a pack in every room and your handbag — trust me on this one.
Natural Products for Sleep and Comfort
Sleep is precious when you have little ones, so anything that helps the whole family rest better is worth its weight in gold.
Organic Cotton Sleepwear and Bedding
I invested in organic cotton sleepsuits and cot sheets, and I genuinely believe they make a difference. Organic cotton is grown without harmful pesticides and processed without harsh chemicals, making it softer and safer against baby’s skin. It also breathes beautifully, which helps regulate temperature overnight.
Calming Room Spray
I make my own gentle room spray using distilled water and a few drops of lavender essential oil. A light mist on the bedding before sleep has become part of our routine. Just remember that essential oils should never be applied directly to baby’s skin and should be used sparingly around little ones.
Practical Tips for Transitioning to Natural Products
If you’re keen to make the switch to natural baby products, here are my best tips:
- Start with what touches skin most — nappies, wipes, and moisturisers are great places to begin.
- Read ingredients, not just marketing — ‘natural’ on the front label doesn’t always mean much. Flip it over and check what’s actually inside.
- Patch test new products — even natural ingredients can cause reactions. Test on a small area first.
- Buy Australian where possible — supporting local brands often means fresher products and smaller carbon footprints.
- Don’t aim for perfection — every swap you make is a positive step. Progress over perfection, always.

It’s All About What Works for Your Family
At the end of the day, the best baby products are the ones that work for you and your little one. What suits my family might not suit yours, and that’s completely okay. My hope is that sharing my favourites gives you a starting point and saves you some of the trial and error I went through.
Natural living doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. It’s about making thoughtful choices where you can and being kind to yourself when things aren’t perfect.
